Why the 2016 Mobile World Congress wasn't just about slick new smartphones

BARCELONA — The 2016 Mobile World Congress has officially drawn to a close, leaving event-goers and tech-watchers alike to take stock of prior days' excitement — the new flagship devices, strange new gadgets and tantalizing speculations about the future

However, a keynote talk from Wednesday's session revealed an unexpected and lesser-known narrative that runs in tandem with the celebration of rapidly evolving mobile connectivity:

According to Nielsen, only 46% of the world's population has access to the Internet, driven by staggeringly low numbers in Latin America (55.9%), the Middle East (52.2%), Asia (40.2%) and Africa (28.6%). Read more...
