Microsoft backs Apple in FBI case

Apple can now count one of its former adversaries as an ally in its legal fight with the FBI.

Microsoft President and Chief Legal Counsel Brad Smith testified before Congress today, saying the company would file paperwork next week in support of Apple in its current case, where the FBI and Department of Justice are trying to compel Apple to create software that will make an iPhone easier to unlock. 

Answering a query from Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Smith, clearly prepared for the line of questioning, said, "We at Microsoft support Apple, and we'll be filing an amicus brief to support Apple's position in court next week." Read more...
