Your hoverboard isn't safe: What you need to do now

Every single hoverboard — AKA self-balancing scooter — sold in the U.S. is unsafe. It doesn't matter if you paid $200 or over $1,000, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said on Friday any device without UL certification (not just the charger) "poses an unreasonable risk of fire to consumers."

The current number of hoverboards with that certification is zero.

The agency publicly sent out a letter that put hoverboard manufacturers, retailers and importers on notice. Those that don't comply could face legal action.
