Court action launched against Pirate Bay in Australia

Village Roadshow and Australian cable television provider, Foxtel, are behind separate court actions to have torrent websites such as Pirate Bay blocked in Australia.

It is the first action of its kind in Australia, since controversial new copyright infringement regulations were passed by the government last June, which allow rights holders to have overseas websites serving their copyrighted content blocked. The companies will take their cases to Federal Court in March. 

Foxtel is targeting multiple IP addresses, which are registered to the torrent sites The Pirate Bay, TorrentHound, Torrentz and IsoHunt. It will request most major telecommunication companies in Australia restrict access to the sites.  Read more...
