The Google app can finally tell you where to get beer in an Aussie accent

If you've never quite been able to trust the American woman directing you to Mittagong via your smartphone, you're in luck.

On Thursday, Google announced the Google app, and the Google Maps app on Android, will both finally have a familiar voice. The company has developed an Australian English language selection, so all your voice searches can now have that homegrown accent

Aussies have been waiting a long time for an Aussie accent on Google's apps, so why the delay? "People are starting to talk to their mobile devices more regularly—in fact, mobile voice searches have more than doubled in the past year alone," a Google spokesperson told Mashable Australia. "We wanted to make sure that Aussies were hearing an Australian voice speak back to them when they were asking questions during pub trivia or simply setting an alarm for tomorrow morning."
