LONDON — Humans have to be "very careful" over the next 100 years in the face of threats stemming from progress in science and technology, physicist Stephen Hawking said

The 74-year-old Cambridge professor made the comments in an interview with the Radio Times in response to a question about whether the world would end naturally or be destroyed by humans.

Hawking said the the Earth faces a number of dangers including nuclear war, global warming and genetically engineered viruses, but believes that the threat of a widespread disaster is some time off — likely 1,000 or 10,000 years away. Read more...
