Samsung is ready to build its empire and take on Microsoft Surface

LAS VEGAS — Tim Baxter may not have the name recognition of Tim Cook, but at times, the president of Samsung Electronics America has a similar job.

He steers the U.S. portion of a technology giant and, at least once a year, he gets on stage to wow the media — if not the world — with new gadgets and gizmos.

When I caught up with Baxter at CES on Tuesday, he had just finished delivering the goods at a press conference that was filled with new appliances and curved TVs, as well as a few surprises and outright innovations like a smart refrigerator, rose gold and platinum options for its Gear S2 smartwatch, and a UHD Blu-Ray player for those who still buy discs.
