National hoverboard ban floated in Australia after dangerous house fire

After a hoverboard caused a devastating house fire in Melbourne Monday, the powers that be in Australia have decided they're going to take a second look at these two-wheeled, non-hovering thingamabobs.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade confirmed Tuesday the fire started after a hoverboard's batteries exploded while it was on charge in a child's bedroom. The model and origin of the hoverboard have not yet been identified.

In response, Jane Garrett, the minister for consumer affairs in Victoria, told reporters in Melbourne Wednesday her office would be taking action, including calling on the federal government to consider a ban on the sale of hoverboards across Australia. Read more...
