This smart umbrella alerts you when you're about to leave it behind

Umbrellas often top the list of commonly misplaced — and replaced — items.

One company is trying to solve that problem with its Davek Alert Umbrella, which sports a Bluetooth chip designed to notify you before you leave your umbrella behind. The product was originally launched on Kickstarter in February 2015, and after a successful campaign, it became available for purchase in December.

The umbrella contains a BLE beacon chip within the handle that links to a smartphone app, which tracks the distance between your phone and the umbrella. If you stray too far away (a.k.a. approximately 30 feet), you’ll get a notification on your phone reading: “Umbrella is out of range.” Read more...
