Samsung bringing iOS compatibility to Gear S2 smartwatch

LAS VEGAS — Samsung announced at its press conference at CES 2016 that it would make the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic smartwatches compatible with iOS later this year.

That of course means iPhone owners will be able to use a Samsung Gear S2 as their smartwatch of choice. Samsung didn't specify exactly when in 2016 the update was coming, but considering the speed at which it iterates its products, it will likely happen before summer.

iOS compatibility was rumored to be coming to the Gear S2, but it's still a surprise given the enmity between Samsung and Apple, and Samsung's history of shunning everything Apple, Mac and iOS. In the case of smartwatches, however, Samsung is simply following the lead of Google and Microsoft, which both made their wearable platforms iPhone-compatible. Read more...
