Verizon and Sprint customers can apply for millions in refunds before year-end

'Tis the season to ask for a refund.

If you're in the U.S. and your carrier is either Verizon or Sprint, there's one thing you mustn't forget before the end of the year: Apply for your "cramming" refund.

"Cramming" is the practice of billing customers bogus fees for services they never asked for, such as horoscope or flirting tips via text messages, usually $9.99 a month. While that sounds pretty shady, pretty much everyone in the wireless industry did it, which is why the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission fined Verizon and Sprint in May, ordering them to set aside hefty sums to refund eligible customers.
