Hoverboard fires get their own fake ad on 'SNL'

Hvrsnl97

Hoverboards were shaping up to be the hottest holiday gift of 2015. That is, until some people began reporting exploding batteries and sudden fires caused by the devices

Now, after safety warnings from the U.S. and UK governments and various stores removing them from their sites, the hoverboard is officially a punchline, and Saturday Night Live skewered the trendy device perfectly

The parody ad describes the fake device as a running on a '90s cell phone battery tasked with running a motor designed for a small car. Sure the video has no real facts and is pretty over-the-top in terms of what we've actually seen. But if you have friends ignoring those very serious anecdotes about hoverboard fires, use this to simultaneously give them a good laugh as well as a reason to pause before buying one as a gift

*Extra credit goes to SNL cast member Pete Davidson for taking one for the team and peeing on himself on camera.
