Jaguar's XF isn't about performance or luxury — it's about perception

"This is way faster than the BMW 550i," my driving partner admitted to me from the passenger seat, as I hammered the throttle onto the freeway.

"You think?" I asked, in a disbelieving tone, leaning my ear to the driver's side window in the hopes of hearing some Jaguar-y crackle from the exhaust. Although the Jag sounded the part, I had a hard time fathoming the XF could be faster than a 445-horsepower BMW.

"Oh, yeah, totally." He nodded.
