United is giving 6,000 customer service reps the iPhone 6 Plus

United Airlines is tripling down on Apple technology at its U.S.-based airport hubs.

Beginning next year, the airline is equipping about 6,000 customer service staff with an iPhone 6 Plus, along with a custom United iOS application so they can help passengers with boarding passes, baggage tags and with flight reservation changes.

United is obsessed with Apple products. The airline provided about 23,000 iPhone 6 Plus devices to its flight attendants last year, and about 13,000 iPads to its pilots in 2011. Last year at United's Newark airport terminal, the airline began installing 6,000 iPads available to customers to make food and beverage orders, as well as check on the status of their flight while they wait.
