Hasbro’s new robotic cats are 'companion pets' for the elderly

Companion-pets

In the "Old People" episode of Aziz Ansari's new show, Master of None, a grandparent introduces his robotic pet seal to his grandson and then gives the stuffed white animal a kiss on the cheek. "I went to the VA and they gave me this — said I needed a companion. I was pissed at first, but I really like the little guy! Isn’t that right, Paro?” he says.

With adults like the grandpa in Master of None in mind, Hasbro has launched a line of "companion pets" for people ages 5 to 105. The "Joy for All" pets are robotic cats that look, feel and purr like normal cats — hairball not included.
