Tumblr debuts instant messaging — for a lucky few

Just months after beefing up its messaging software suite with Livetext, Yahoo has updated Tumblr by adding a new instant messaging feature

But the rollout is small. Just 1,500 users will be trying it out at launch, with everyone else joining by December.

The new feature appears via a new smiley face chat icon (see below) in the top menu bar of the Tumblr site when you're logged in.

Excluded from the feature (for now) are private and group Tumblr blogs. Users also have the option to either accept chats from everyone, or only from Tumblr's they follow Read more...
