I tested Tesla Autopilot in Manhattan traffic — and lived to tell about it

"If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere." While that line (or variations of it) generally refers to people, it can also apply to cars.

New York City is one of the worst places in the world to drive, so I tend to see it as the ultimate challenge for cars. Otherwise great vehicles can be crushed by the anarchy that is Manhattan rush-hour traffic. That's why I was excited to have the opportunity to avoid cabs and potholes in a Tesla Model S P90D.

Autopilot

A bit of a refresher: Autopilot is Tesla's suite of radar- and camera-based semi-autonomous vehicle systems, including Autosteer, Auto Lane Change, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control, Side Collision Warning and Autopark.
