The cloud could soon let Aussies travel without a passport

UPDATE: Thursday, Oct. 29, 12:48 p.m.: Foreign Minister Julie Bishop confirms reports of a cloud passport.

Australians could soon leave their old paper passports at home if a new proposal endorsed by Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop goes ahead.

The idea of a cloud passport was proposed at a diplomacy-focused hackathon at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) in Canberra, Fairfax Media reported.

The digital passport would include identity and biometrics data, according to the outlet, meaning Australians could easily be recognised at the border without showing any documents. Read more...
