The trouble with Tesla: Cutting through Elon Musk's hype machine

Consumer Reports recently released its annual survey of car owners that looks reliability and satisfaction, amongst many other factors. While some brands and models rose and fell in the ranks, none garnered as much press as Tesla's Model S. The infamous luxury EV sedan received a "worse-than-average" reliability rating, forcing Consumer Reports to remove its 'Recommended' moniker from the model.

This came as a surprise to some, including investors who sent the Tesla stock plummeting by 10% in the immediate aftermath of the report. The report was especially surprising since Consumer Reports bragged the same car 'broke' its rating scale just months before with a 103/100 score. Read more...
