Florida couple slaps Apple with $5 million lawsuit over Wi-Fi Assist

Try as it may, Apple can't seem to get rid of the controversy surrounding Wi-Fi Assist.

A Florida couple has filed a suit against Apple for $5 million with the claim that Wi-Fi Assist is a misleading feature that contributes to higher data charges, Re/code reported. Wi-Fi Assist is a new feature in iOS 9 which automatically switches to cellular data from Wi-Fi when the connection is weak.

The feature attracted some controversy when it launched, with many claiming that it caused significant increase in data usage (though it may actually be your settings). Apple updated its website earlier this month to clarify the feature's functionality, noting cellular data usage might be a "small percentage higher" than it would be with Wi-Fi Assist turned off.
