Cadillac's Cyclone used a radar to prevent crashes way back in 1959

Automakers like Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Volvo and — of course — Tesla have made headlines in recent years with their radar-based collision warning systems

As it turns out, though, Cadillac had the idea to keep drivers safe on the highway with the help of radar way back in 1959 with its Cyclone concept.

The radar-locating device was embedded in the front nosecones of the concept. The company worked to scan the highway ahead and alerted drivers electronically of any upcoming obstacles in the car's path; as you can imagine, this was pretty advanced stuff for the late '50s. Read more...
