Be an eco-friendly hoon this summer with Australia's first electric jet ski

Noisy, gas-guzzling jet skis have long been the bane of every beachgoer hoping to have a relaxing time on the water. But if you're looking for a guilt-free way to speed around this summer, students from the University of Western Australia may have found an environmentally friendly solution: What they claim is Australia's first electric jet ski.

"We eliminated the two negative aspects of petrol-powered models: excessive noise and heavy pollution of water and air," director of the university's Renewable Energy Vehicle project, Professor Thomas Braunl, said in a statement. "We have worked for more than two years on this project, and the major challenge was to make everything water-tight and safe; from batteries, to switches and motor controllers." Read more...
