Unboxing Microsoft's first laptop, the versatile Surface Book

In case you missed it, yes, Microsoft did build its own laptop, though it is and isn’t really one. But maybe questioning what the Surface Book is isn’t all that useful. The better question: How good is it?

The 13.5-inch screen is also a removable tablet, which you can reattach facing in the opposite direction. The hinge attaching the keyboard to the screen also rolls out like a rug, expanding the bottom of the laptop, which has a full-sized keyboard.

With a base-level price of $1,499, it's more than just a big screen and a fancy hinge. The battery can withstand 12 hours of video playback. And overall, it's versatile, too. A Bluetooth Surface pen equipped with an eraser can be used on OneNote and to drive Cortana searches. You can also turn the screen into a drawing pad and use the pen to doodle.
