Tiny crystals give forensics an update, making fingerprints glow in the dark
Dusting for fingerprints at a crime scene is a centuries-old process, but one Australian scientist has figured out a way to make it quicker, easier and a lot more fluorescent
Kang Liang, a scientist at Australia's top science body, the CSIRO, has developed a technique that uses liquid containing tiny crystals to combine with fingerprint residue on a molecular level. Under a UV light, the crystal-infused prints show up immediately in a very bright, clear fashion that can be easily photographed and run through a database. His findings were recently published in the science journal Advanced Materials. Read more...
