Autopilot for the Tesla Model S is here, but it costs an extra $2,500

PALO ALTO, California — Starting Thursday, your Tesla Model S will have receive an over-the-air software update, but not for free. The new 7.0 software will bring with it a new, more modern look to the operating system, some new instrument panel apps, climate control interface improvements, and — oh, yeah — Autopilot.

Autopilot, however, will cost every Tesla Model S owner $2,500, which probably qualifies it as the most expensive in-app purchase ever.
