Apple: You'll get a similar battery life regardless of which chip your iPhone has

Just when a new controversy surrounding the iPhone started brewing, with some users claiming iPhone 6S phones get different battery lives depending on whether they sport a Samsung- or TSMC-made processor, Apple came in to squash the entire thing at its roots.

According to the company, battery life between two otherwise identical iPhone 6S or 6S Plus models may vary, but only by 2-3%.

The issue, dubbed "Chipgate" by some, stems from the fact that Apple's A9 processor, which powers the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, is made by two different manufacturers — Samsung and TSMC. According to Chipworks, the chips are different in size and are made on a different manufacturing process; the Samsung-made A9 chip measures 96mm and is made on a 14nm process, while TSMC is 104.5mm and is made on a 16nm process.
