Volkswagen U.S. CEO: 'This company has to bloody learn'

Volkswagen's U.S. CEO would like you to know that he's not an engineer. Also, he's very sorry.

Testifying in front of the House Energy & Commerce committee Thursday, Volkswagen's U.S. CEO Michael Horn said he only learned of the usage of emissions-cheating defeat devices around September 3, 2015, claiming that the decision to implement the software was not a "corporate decision." Horn claims there is much he doesn't know about the issue, but he said that Volkswagen needs to "bloody learn" from this mistake.

Volkswagen recently admitted to cheating emissions testing with its four-cylinder diesel cars by using a piece of software called a "defeat device." The software detects when the car is undergoing emissions testing and turns on all of the emissions control systems, passing emissions testing.
