Japan's Erica android isn't as creepy as other talking robots

Osaka University professor Hiroshi Ishiguro, who has delivered creepily real androids in past years, is back with a new hyper-realistic robot called Erica

But the focus of Ishiguro's latest work isn't on just amazing your eyes, but also your ears, by giving the android improved speech and communication body language, further erasing the "uncanny valley" effect of speaking to a robot

Crafted through a collaboration between the Japan Science and Technology Agency, Osaka University, the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR) and Kyoto University, Erica's communication skills were shown off at Japan's Miraikan National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo earlier this month
