The evolution of Windows startup sounds, from Windows 3.1 to 10

Every Windows operating system release from Windows 3.1 to Windows 8 has shipped with a startup sound. Hearing the chimes assures you that your computer is working and starting up properly.

With the release of Windows 10, the startup music is no more

You won't hear a single beep when you power up a PC running Windows 10. Even when you go into the sound settings in the Control Panel and check off "Play Windows Startup sound" box, nothing happens when you reboot.

You just get silence.
