How technology helped one couple connect with bride's ailing mother on their wedding day

SONOMA, Calif. — When 29-year-old Samantha Carisch walked down the aisle in Sonoma, California, last month, her heart rate pulsated at 115 bmp — a range typically associated with a sprint to catch the subway. While an elevated pulse is nothing unusual for a bride-to-be, Carisch’s wedding day was documented with data and photography in a way we’ve never quite seen before.

On the outside, Carisch stunned in a Pnina Tornai gown, but hidden within her dress was a fitness tracker monitoring her heart rate, movements and even sleep cycle. She was nervous as she took her first few steps toward her now-husband Taylor Sinclair, also 29, but after the couple exchanged vows, her heart-rate dipped to 72 mph.
