The final nail in Google+ Photos' coffin is going in.

Google announced it will be closing down its Google+ Photos service, starting with the Android version on Aug. 1, the company announced in a Google+ post on Thursday. Shutdown times for the iOS and web versions will happen soon after

Google is pushing for users to transition to its new Google Photos service, which lets users upload an unlimited number of photos and videos at 16 megapixels and 1080p full HD resolution, respectively — for free.

To ensure uninterrupted service when switching from Google+ Photos to Google Photos, the company advises users to download and install the new photos app or export data using Google Takeout. Users will also find their photos and videos backed up at photos.google.com. Read more...
