Spotify introduces curated playlists, Nike Running integration

Amid mounting competition from the recently-launched Apple Music, Spotify is beefing up its own music service — with new running and music discovery tools.

Spotify announced this week it is working with Nike to put the music service's entire library into the popular Nike+ Running app, which is used to track users' workout activity. The feature has already rolled out to most users.

In a blog post on its website, Spotify points to scientific studies that highlight how listening to music while running changes a runner's perception of exertion and fatigue, helping them run longer. With this in mind, the app automatically tracks a runner's pace and asks for its music preference.
