United Airlines and NYSE troubles are homegrown

This week’s New York Stock Exchange and United Airlines tech meltdowns highlighted our infrastructure vulnerabilities and prompted fresh fears of cyber-terrorism. Yet further examination reveals that it's not dark external forces we have to fear, but the enemy within.

As of this writing, both United and the NYSE have identified internal technology issues as the root causes of their problems. United offered scant details beyond a router issue hampering network connectivity for many of their software applications.
