The sequel to one of 2014's best Android smartphones will be unveiled in VR

The OnePlus One is one the best contract-free Android smartphones that you can buy for $250. It's also one that not many people have heard of.

Next month, OnePlus will officially announce its successor, the OnePlus 2 — in a very futuristic way.

Big product announcements are typically live streamed, but OnePlus isn't going for typical. On July 27 at 7 p.m. PT, it will unveil the OnePlus 2 completely in virtual reality, according to a forum post.

The startup, which has quickly amassed a cult of fans with its exclusive "invite to buy" strategy, says the "VR launch lets you stand right next to our team and our fans as we unveil our new flagship."
