Nest announces Nest Cam, new Protect smoke detector

Nest is cleaning house.

The Google-owned company is refreshing its entire line of smart-home products, including a new smoke detector and thermostat as well as a redesigned and rebranded Dropcam camera, now called the Nest Cam, CEO Tony Fadell announced at an event on Wednesday.

The Nest Protect 2.0 is the company's second-generation smoke detector. Although it looks similar to the old model, Fadell said the device was redesigned from the inside out following the product recall Nest had to initiate for the first one. (It was eventually re-released.) Read more...
