You may step into a virtual reality 'Star Wars' scene by the end of 2015

Fulfilling the dreams of nerds worldwide, it seems we're about to get Star Wars virtual reality.

Disney's collective of Lucas properties — Lucasfilm, Skywalker Sound and Industrial Light & Magic — has joined forces to establish ILM Experience Lab, a team with the goal of creating immersive experiences. 

Star Wars is the team's first stop, with ILMxLab "likely" to debut content connected to The Force Awakens when it debuts in December of this year.

Don't make the mistake of lumping the "immersive experience" plans with video games. Interactivity is central to the ideas ILMxLab is exploring, creative director John Gaeta told USA Today. The focus is on bringing an audience into "the two-dimensional world of movies" and allowing them to explore, Gaeta said. Read more...
