Google's latest project: Improving city life

Google's products are designed with the goal of improving your digital life, but the company now wants to help city dwellers IRL with Sidewalk Labs.

In a Google+ post Wednesday, Google CEO Larry Page announced the formation of Sidewalk Labs, which has the lofty goal of trying to make city life better for all. A press release on Sidewalk Labs' website described itself as an "urban innovation company" with a "focus on improving city life for residents, businesses and governments."

Heading up Sidewalk Labs will be Dan Doctoroff, former CEO of Bloomberg LP and former Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Rebuilding in New York City. Doctoroff was also a Managing Partner at a private equity firm and one of the leaders of New York's failed 2012 Olympics bid. Read more...
