Apple reveals its next-generation OS: El Capitan

After months of rumors, Apple pulled the curtain back on the next version of its operating system coming to Mac computers later this year: Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan.

Named after a peak at Yosemite National Park, El Capitan builds on what Apple's existing OS software — Yosemite — offers, with a big focus on experience and performance. The update will be available via a public beta release in July and will be downloadable for everyone — for free — this fall.

Mac OS El Capitan will introduce the ability to multi-task via two windows side-by side, in a move we've already seen executed by Microsoft.
