Target won't have physical Apple Pay support until checkout overhaul is complete
RANCHO PALOS VERDES — Blame Target's data breach for the delay on getting Apple Pay support in stores.
Back in 2013, Target suffered through one of the worst credit card data breaches ever. It basically set the bar for all that's come after it. It was a wakeup call for the industry, especially for Target, which hired a new CEO Brian Cornell 10 months ago. Cornell revealed on Wednesday at Re/code's Code Conference that that transition is the reason that Target, one of the first to adopt Apple Pay for in-app purchases, won't be enabling the physical Apple Pay mobile payment system any time soon.
