Meerkat embraces developers and opens up its platform

Developers: You can now build apps on top of Meerkat.

The live streaming service is opening up its platform to allow anyone to create apps that work with Meerkat, the company revealed Wednesday.

"We want to create a community for third party developers to interact and work together with the Meerkat dev team," the company wrote on Medium. "There is a lot more to be done with video live streaming and we are here to support you. We all get better by working together."

The company noted 37 developers have already created Meerkat-enabled appsMeerkat Stats, for example, provides detailed analytics about a users' audience and breaks down a history of their streaming activity, along with who tuned in.
