Speed demon: One man's mission to make his Tesla go faster

JUPITER, Florida — The car is, by Brooks Weisblat’s measure, as easy to drag race as it is good-looking.

“Just point and shoot,” Weisblat thinks to himself as he lines up his sleek, black Tesla Model S P85D electric sedan on the raceway and watches the tree lights up ahead turn orange. His foot is poised just over the accelerator. When the lights turn green, Weisblat slams his foot down, pressing hard and harder, as though doing so might make the Tesla go faster.

Today’s goal is crystal clear: setting a new quarter-mile world record in speed for electric cars. If Weisblat succeeds, he’ll break his own record, which he set just a few months ago on the very same track. Read more...
