Oyster Brings E-Book Subscription Service to Android, Plans Web App Next

When Oyster launched its Netflix-style e-book subscription service last fall, the goal was to change how readers browse, discover and consume books on mobile. But a key piece of the puzzle was missing: Android.

The startup's team had been thinking about an Android app ever since its iPhone app launched, but the team didn't begin working on it in earnest until the beginning of this year. "The biggest thing for us is to maintain that really high level of user experience in the reader when you’re designing for a platform that has several thousand different screen sizes," said Willem Van Lancker, cofounder of Oyster and a former member of the Google Maps design team "It's important to think about sizing and margins and typography."
