The city of Natal, on the northeastern coast of Brazil, received at least a month’s worth of rain in just a few days, according to news reports and weather observations, leading to landslides, sinkholes and other potentially deadly consequences.
The flooding in Natal stands in stark contrast to conditions in São Paulo, which is another World Cup host city. A long-lasting drought in São Paulo has raised concerns about water supplies and electrical power generation. Read more...
