If you picked up virtually any newspaper across North America late in the afternoon of June 6, 1944, you would have been greeted with news of the Allied Invasion in France. Though the 72-point headlines didn’t mention D-Day (most noted it in the text), everyone knew this was potentially the turning point of the war, and a lynchpin in the Allies’ hopes for victory against Hitler’s Germany.
