Need for Speed: Google Joins Netflix in Grading IPSs on Streaming Video

Google has joined Netflix in grading how well U.S. ISPs stream video on the Internet.

Google's Video Quality Report is now available in the U.S., highlighting which Internet service providers (ISPs) provide the best video streaming quality.

The report is not an explicit indictment of IPSs as having sole responsibility for problems with streaming video, but does mirror actions taken by Netflix — which has left little doubt that it believes companies like Comcast and Verizon should be held responsible for poor service.

Any web user can now visit www.google.com/get/videoqualityreport to check their ISP to see how well YouTube streams on its service and how it measures up to other providers. Google first rolled out the report in January but only in Canada. Read more...
