Six hundred feet above a waterfront airstrip, Jeff Boerboon is a blur in a cherry red biplane. The noise of his propeller engine drowns out the cheers of the crowd below, who have spent a beautiful summer afternoon watching him perform a set of aerial acrobatics — flips, turns, and nausea-inducing spins. But Boerboon has a surprise in store for them. From his seat in the open-air cockpit, he flips a switch and turns on a jet engine, sending his plane rocketing into the sky and leaving behind a thick trail of smoke.
