For Some, Balkan Floods Have Caused Damage Akin to 1990s War

The floodwaters are finally receding in parts of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia, after three month's worth of rain fell in just two to three days, sending rivers roaring through towns and inundating farmlands

Damage and recovery estimates are beginning to come in, with likely costs running in the billions of Euros. According to government officials, the floods have caused more damage in some areas than the Bosnian War did during the mid-1990s.

The flooding affected 40% of Bosnia-Herzegovina, according to Bosnian foreign minister Zlatko Lagumdzija.
