New York City Tells Couples to Take Their 'Love Locks' Somewhere Else

A "love lock" can be a beautifully symbolic, semi-permanent gesture for showing your significant other how much you care. But for New York City transportation officials, showing your love should not mean destroying your environment.

A trend that has marked many major cities, but is especially common on the Ponts des Arts in Paris, has become a nuisance for the New York City Department of Transportation. Padlocks with short messages of undying love, or the names of people's soulmates, have begun to line New York City bridges.
