New York Times Top Editor Jill Abramson Is Out

Jill Abramson, executive editor at the New York Times, stepped down on Thursday without warning, leaving the role to Dan Baquet, who was managing editor.

Abramson, who took over as executive editor in September 2011, is the first woman to have run the paper's editorial side.

The Times reported the resignation without clarifying the reason for the departure.

“I’ve loved my run at The Times,” Abramson said in a statement, according to the Times. “I got to work with the best journalists in the world doing so much stand-up journalism,” she said, noting her appointment of many senior female editors as one of her achievements. Read more...
