'Edge of Tomorrow' Learned Everything it Knows From Gamers

Gamers have known for a long time that the ability to reset is the most valuable learning tool in games. Now Tom Cruise's next film seems to take one from their playbook.

In the new trailer for Edge of Tomorrow, we see Cruise as Maj. William Cage, part of Earth's forces engaged in the battle against an alien race. Cage dies in battle ... but somehow respawns back at the beginning of the same day with some recollection of past events.

This Groundhog Day-esque sci-fi concept means Cage — with the help of actress Emily Blunt — can become a little smarter and better prepared against his alien foes. Cage goes from not knowing how his bulky exoskeleton armor works in the trailer, to learning to become an alien-hunting badass all through a lot of painful deaths. Read more...
